CASE STUDY

Client: Facebook USA

Documenting the opening of Facebook's Estação Hack, in São Paulo
Date: 2017

THE CHALLENGE

To create a high-impact video showcasing the marathon task of building the Facebook Estação Hack from start to finish in one month. The 1000-square-metre “hack station” is the first Facebook training centre in Latin America and offers free coding courses, digital workshops and career guidance. It is located within the We Work premises on Avenida Paulista.

Facebook also wanted to use our Brazilian production services to document two milestone events:

• a press day for the start of the construction project

• the official opening, attended by budding coders, tech entrepreneurs and local politicians.
The creative challenge: To reflect the cutting-edge approach of Facebook.

The logistical challenge: To create a time-lapse video documenting the rapid construction process of a large busy building site.

OUR SOLUTION

Filming the inception of the first major Facebook branded space in Brazil needed an innovative solution worthy of a tech giant. So we installed four cameras around the building site and created a visually stunning time-lapse and hyperlapse video, showcasing the transformation from an empty shell to sleek, high-tech training centre.

The Story Productions team were in and out of the site every other day, moving the cameras to follow the action, swapping batteries and memory sticks. And all without bothering the round-the-clock construction team working to a tight schedule.

We edited over 50,000 images into a 2.5 minute video which was played on various screens at the inauguration, showcasing perfectly the scale and complexity of the project. We adapted the same video for the small screen, setting it to a narration of Diego Dzodan, President of Facebook Latin America

AUDIENCE RESPONSE

By showing the construction work using time-lapse and hyperlapse technique, Facebook was able to literally show the investment it is putting in the Hack Station initiative. Check all the updates of Facebook's first innovation center here.
